Yirgalem Fisseha Mebrahtu, born in 1981 in Adi-Keh, Eritrea, is an Eritrean writer, poet and journalist. From 2003, she worked as a producer and presenter for the radio station Radio Bana, which was banned in 2009. She was imprisoned in the Mai-serwa military prison from 2009 to 2015. Mebrahtu co-founded the literary club of Adi-Keh and participated in the German PEN Centre’s Writers in Exile programme from 2018 to 2021. In 2019, she received the PEN Eritrea Freedom of Speech Award. Her poetry collection ኣለኹ was published in 2019 and appeared in German translation in 2023.
