Wolfgang Tillmans (born 1968 in Remscheid, Germany) is an artist and photographer. He studied at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art and Design and became known in the early 1990s for photographs of youth and popular culture. His work includes portraits, landscapes, still lifes, political and social subjects, and abstract images. It expanded the possibilities of photographic representation while combining intimate observation with social critique. Tillmans took part in the Venice Biennale in 2009. His honors include the Turner Prize (2000), the Hasselblad Award, and the Kaiserring of the City of Goslar (2018).
