Wolfgang Schiffer (born 1946 in Nettetal-Lobberich, Germany) was a writer, translator and editor. He studied philosophy, literature and theatre studies in Cologne and headed the WDR radio network’s radio-play and feature programme group. His publications included radio plays, theatre works, prose and poetry, among them the poetry collections *Kalt steht die Sonne* (1983), *Die Saison geht zu Ende* (2014) and *Dass die Erde einen Buckel werfe* (2022). As a translator and editor, he focused particularly on Icelandic literature. For his contribution to the dissemination of Icelandic culture, he received the Order of the Falcon in 1991 and the Icelandic Cultural Prize in 1994.
