Wolfgang Jantzen (born 1941) studied at the universities of Giessen and Marburg and received a doctorate in educational science in 1972. After working as a teacher at a school for students with learning disabilities and as a university lecturer in Marburg, he became professor of special education at the University of Bremen in 1974. There he helped establish degree programmes in special education, including a teaching degree and a diploma programme. From 1987 to 1988, he was Wilhelm Wundt Professor of Psychology at Karl Marx University in Leipzig. Jantzen served for many years in the Luria Society, an association promoting the scientific foundations of rehabilitation for people with brain injuries. In 2010, he was a visiting research professor in Brazil, studying the contribution of activity theory to the literacy of Indigenous peoples and conducting research in the Amazon region.
