William Kentridge

William Kentridge, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1955, is a South African artist. He studied politics and African studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and printmaking at the Johannesburg Art Foundation, and later took training in mime and acting in Paris. His multidisciplinary work includes drawing, printmaking, film, performance and music, and has been exhibited internationally since the 1980s. Kentridge participated in several documenta exhibitions, including documenta X (1997), Documenta11 (2002) and dOCUMENTA (13) (2012). His honors include the Kaiserring of the City of Goslar (2003), the Kyoto Prize (2010), the Princess of Asturias Award (2017) and the Praemium Imperiale (2019).
