William Carlos Williams

William Carlos Williams (1883–1963) was an American poet, writer, and physician. Born in Rutherford, New Jersey, he studied medicine in Pennsylvania and Germany before practicing as a doctor in his hometown. He began writing poetry while still at school and privately published his first collection in 1909. Alongside Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, Williams is regarded as a major figure in modern American poetry. He received the Pulitzer Prize shortly before his death.
