Wilhelm Heitmeyer (born 1945) is a German sociologist and conflict researcher. He was a professor in the Faculty of Educational Science at Bielefeld University and directed its Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence from 1996 to 2013. His research focused on social disintegration, socialization, violence, right-wing extremism, and group-focused enmity. Among other works, he edited the “Deutsche Zustände” series for Suhrkamp Verlag.
