Wilhelm Genazino

Wilhelm Genazino (1943–2018) was a German author. Born in Mannheim, he initially worked as a freelance journalist and later as an editor and publisher for newspapers and magazines. From 1971 onward, he worked as a freelance writer. He became known for the “Abschaffel” trilogy, comprising “Abschaffel,” “Die Vernichtung der Sorgen,” and “Falsche Jahre.” His extensive body of work includes novels, essays, plays, radio dramas, and journalistic writings. Among other honors, Genazino received the Grand Literature Prize of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1998, the Georg Büchner Prize in 2004, the Kleist Prize in 2007, and the Rinke Language Prize in 2010.
