Wilfried Griebel, born in 1951 in Neustadt in Holstein, studied Slavic studies, folklore, Southeast European history and psychology. From 1982 onward, he worked as a qualified psychologist at the State Institute for Early Childhood Education in Munich and published numerous books. He was also a member of the German Alpine Club.
