Volker Gerhardt

Volker Gerhardt (born 1944) is a German philosopher. He studied philosophy, psychology, sociology and law in Frankfurt am Main and Münster, receiving his doctorate in 1974 and his habilitation in Münster in 1984. After teaching in Münster, serving as a visiting professor in Zurich and holding a professorship at the German Sport University Cologne, he became professor of practical philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin in 1992. Gerhardt published works on Kant and Nietzsche as well as on ethics and political philosophy, including “Individualität,” “Immanuel Kant. Vernunft und Leben” and “Partizipation.” He contributed to the edition of Immanuel Kant’s works and received the Karl Jaspers Prize in 2022.
