Vincenzo Cerami (born 1940) was an Italian writer and screenwriter. He made his literary debut in 1976 with the novel “Un borghese piccolo piccolo” (“A Very Small Small-Bourgeois”), which was adapted for the screen by Mario Monicelli in 1977. Cerami worked as an assistant director to Pier Paolo Pasolini, who became his friend and mentor, and wrote screenplays for directors including Marco Bellocchio, Ettore Scola, and Gianni Amelio. His closest collaboration was with Roberto Benigni; together they wrote, among other works, the screenplay for the Oscar-winning film “Life Is Beautiful”.
