Val Plumwood

Val Plumwood (1939–2008) was an Australian ecofeminist and environmental philosopher. She taught and conducted research at universities in Australia and the United States while maintaining a critical distance from the academic world. Her critique of Western anthropocentrism led her to examine the foundations of an ethics of nature. Her major works include *Feminism and the Mastery of Nature* (1993) and *Environmental Culture: The Ecological Crisis of Reason* (2002). The collection *The Eye of the Crocodile* was published posthumously in 2012.
