Tom Hodgkinson, born in 1968, studied English literature at Cambridge. After working for a tabloid newspaper, he founded the publication The Idler in 1993, devoted to the subject of idleness. He writes books and columns. His best-known works include How to Be Idle, The Idle Parent and Brave Old World. In 2011, he founded the Idler Academy in London, a cultural center with a library and café offering courses in subjects including literature, music, and crafts.
