Tina Flecken (born 1968 in Cologne) studied Scandinavian Studies, English and German in Cologne and Reykjavík. After several years as a publishing editor, she began working as a translator in 2004, translating prose and poetry from Icelandic, Swedish and English into German. Her Icelandic translations include works by, among others, Andri Snær Magnason, Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir, Sjón, Yrsa Sigurðardóttir and Sigríður Hagalín Björnsdóttir. Her first major translation from Icelandic was Mikael Torfason’s novel “The World’s Stupidest Father.” In 2021, she received Iceland’s Orðstír Translation Award.
