Thomas Schilp

Thomas Schilp (1953–2019) was a German historian and archivist. He studied history, German literature and political science in Marburg and attended the Marburg School of Archival Studies. From 1987 to 2014, he worked at the Dortmund City Archives, serving as its director in his later years. He also taught as an adjunct professor of medieval history. His research focused on memoria, religious communities of women, Essen Abbey, and the urban and regional history of Dortmund. Schilp’s publications included “Dortmund in the Middle Ages,” “Dortmund as a Hanseatic City,” and “St. Mary’s Church in Dortmund.” He was also co-editor of the series “Dortmunder Mittelalter-Forschungen” and “Dortmunder Exkursionen zur Geschichte und Kultur”.
