Thomas Adam received his doctorate from Leipzig University in 1998. From 1999 to 2001, he was a Fedor Lynen Fellow at the University of Toronto before joining the University of Texas at Arlington, where he taught transnational and transatlantic history until 2020. He subsequently moved to the University of Arkansas, serving as an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and as deputy director of the International and Global Studies Program. His research and publications focus on nineteenth-century transnational history, intercultural transfers between Germany, Great Britain, the United States, and Canada, and urban civic philanthropy in transatlantic comparison.
