Theodor Storm (1817–1888) was a German writer associated with poetic realism. After studying law in Kiel and Berlin, he initially worked as a lawyer in Husum and later held judicial positions in Potsdam, Heiligenstadt, and Husum. He became best known for his novellas, including *Immensee* and *The Rider on the White Horse*, as well as for his poetry. Storm regarded himself primarily as a lyric poet and considered his poems the starting point for his narrative work.
