Svenja Becker (born 1967 in Kusel, Palatinate) studied economics as well as Spanish language and literature. After working as a stonemason and as a member of a pub collective, she became a freelance translator of Spanish-language literature from Spain and Latin America in 2000. She translated works by authors including Isabel Allende, Juan Carlos Onetti, Carla Guelfenbein and Camila Sosa Villada into German. Becker received several work and travel grants from the German Translators’ Fund and was a 2012 fellow of the “En tránsito” translation residency in Berlin and Buenos Aires.
