Susanne Stemmler is a scholar of literature and culture holding a doctorate (Dr. phil.). From 1997 to 2004, she taught Romance studies as well as media and cultural studies at the University of Düsseldorf. As part of a research project on hip-hop in New York, Paris, and Berlin, she worked at the TU Berlin’s graduate program “Culture and History of the Metropolis” and was a visiting fellow at institutions including Columbia University. At the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, she headed the department of Literature, Society, and Science. Her publications include the edited volumes “Hip-Hop und Rap in romanischen Sprachwelten. Stationen einer globalen Musikkultur” (2007) and “Metropolen im Maßstab. Stadtpläne als Matrix des Erzählens” (2008).
