Sarah Kirsch

Sarah Kirsch (1935–2013) was a German writer, poet, and painter. She studied biology in Halle and literature at the Literature Institute in Leipzig. From the early 1960s onward, she published poetry and short prose. Her works include, among others, “Islandhoch” and “Sommerhütchen.” She received numerous awards for her poetry, including the Georg Büchner Prize, the Jean-Paul Prize, and the Johann Heinrich Voß Prize.
