Samantha Shannon (born 1991) grew up in West London and studied English language and literature at Oxford. She became known for her debut novel, *The Bone Season*, the first book in a planned seven-volume fantasy series. Her other works include *The Priory of the Orange Tree* and its prequel, *A Day of Fallen Night*. Shannon was a 2020 finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards for *The Priory of the Orange Tree*.
