Rutu Modan

Rutu Modan, born in Israel in 1966, is an Israeli comic artist, illustrator, and author. She studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, completing her training in 1992. Modan co-founded the Israeli artists’ collective and publishing house Actus Tragicus and worked for publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Le Monde. She received the Andersen Award for illustration in 2001. She gained international recognition with her graphic novel “Exit Wounds,” published in German as “Blutspuren,” which received, among other honors, the Eisner Award and the Prix France Info. Her other works include the graphic novel “The Property” (“Das Erbe”).
