Ruth Pfau

Ruth Pfau (1929–2017) was a German physician who worked as a leprosy doctor in Pakistan from 1960 onward. From 1981, she also worked underground in Afghanistan, where she established a healthcare service. Among other honors, she received the Magsaysay Award in 2002, the Albert Schweitzer Prize Gold Medal in 2004, and the Dönhoff Prize in 2005.
