Rudolf Smend

Rudolf Smend (born 1932) is a German Protestant theologian and scholar of the Old Testament. He studied in Tübingen, Göttingen and Basel, earning his doctorate in 1958 and completing his habilitation in 1962. He taught Old Testament as a professor in Berlin from 1963 to 1965, in Münster from 1965 to 1971, and subsequently at the University of Göttingen. He was granted emeritus status in 1998.
