Richard Overy, born in London in 1947, is a historian whose research focuses on the world wars and the dictatorships of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. He taught history as a professor at the University of Exeter and has published numerous books and scholarly articles. His best-known works include Die Diktatoren. Hitlers Deutschland, Stalins Russland, Die Wurzeln des Sieges and Weltenbrand, a comprehensive history of the Second World War. He received the Wolfson History Prize for Die Diktatoren, while Weltenbrand was awarded the Duke of Wellington Medal for Military History.
