Richard Hughes (born in 1900 in Surrey, England) was an English writer whose work included poetry, drama and fiction. After the First World War, he studied at Oxford and became part of its literary scene. He published a volume of poetry in 1922, and one of his plays was staged in London’s West End that same year. His first novel, “A High Wind in Jamaica” (1928), became a bestseller in Britain and the United States. It was followed ten years later by the novel “In Hazard”.
