Renate Schmidt studied Romance languages and literature in Erlangen and Paris and subsequently spent many years abroad. In the 1990s, she studied ethnology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Walking, particularly along historic pilgrimage routes, became one of her passions. Her publications include “Santiagos Wege – Los caminos de Santiago,” “Die Fremde finden,” and “Unterwegs in Geschichte und Gegenwart – Porto – Santiago – Fisterra.”
