Reinhard Brandt

Born in 1937, Reinhard Brandt studied Latin, Greek and philosophy in Marburg, Munich and Paris. From 1972 to 2002, he was Professor of Philosophy at Philipps University Marburg and also held visiting professorships in Bloomington, Canberra, Munich, Padua and Rome. He subsequently served as Christian Wolff Professor in Halle. His research focused on Enlightenment philosophy, particularly Immanuel Kant, as well as legal philosophy, aesthetics, anthropology and the theory of images. Brandt also directed the Marburg office responsible for continuing the Academy Edition of Kant’s collected writings. His books include *Philosophie in Bildern* (2000), *Die Bestimmung des Menschen bei Kant* (2007), *Können Tiere denken?* (2009) and *Wozu noch Universitäten?* (2011).
