R. C. Sherriff (Robert Cedric Sherriff) was born in Surrey in 1896 and died in London in 1975. The British writer and screenwriter initially worked for his father’s insurance company and served in the British Army during the First World War. His experiences at the front influenced his literary work. After the war, he studied at New College, Oxford. His screenwriting was recognized with two BAFTA Awards, and his scripts were also nominated for an Academy Award.
