Pirkko Saisio

Born in 1949, Pirkko Saisio became known as a Finnish writer, director, and actress. Her debut novel, “The Course of Life,” was published in 1975 and received an award for best debut of the year. Saisio was nominated for the Finlandia Prize six times and won it in 2003 for “Das rote Buch der Abschiede,” the concluding volume of her autofictional trilogy, which marked her literary breakthrough.
