Philippa Pearce

Philippa Pearce (1920–2006) grew up in Great Shelford as the daughter of a miller. She studied English literature and history at Cambridge and later worked as an editor, including for the BBC. Pearce wrote numerous award-winning children’s books; one of her best-known works is *Tom’s Midnight Garden* (published in German as *Als die Uhr dreizehn schlug*).
