Peter Zadek

Peter Zadek (1926–2009) was a German theatre director. He studied at Oxford and began working in theatre in England in 1946, later working mainly in Germany from 1958 onward. He directed the Schauspielhaus Bochum from 1972 to 1975 and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg from 1985 to 1989. He subsequently worked as a freelance director in cities including Vienna, Munich and Berlin. His Shakespeare productions in particular made a lasting mark on German theatre history.
