Born in 1955 in Altena, Peter Prange studied German, Romance languages and literature, and philosophy in Göttingen, Perugia, Paris and Tübingen, where he earned a doctorate with a thesis on the cultural and social history of the Enlightenment. He has worked as a novelist, screenwriter and translator. He became known for historical novels such as The Amber Amulet, The Principessa, The Philosopher, The Last Harem, The Seeker of God and The Child Pope. The Amber Amulet was adapted as a two-part television film for German broadcaster ARD, and other works have also been adapted for film and television.
