Peter Hessler

Peter Hessler (born 1969) worked as a journalist for *The New Yorker*. From 2000 to 2007, he reported as a correspondent from Beijing, and from 2011 to 2016 from Cairo. He published several books about China. In 2008, he received the National Magazine Award for his reporting; in 2011, he was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship.
