Peter de Mendelssohn

Peter de Mendelssohn (1908–1982) was a German journalist, writer, and editor. The son of a goldsmith, he grew up in the artists’ colony of Dresden-Hellerau and published his first texts while working as an editor at the Berliner Tageblatt. He emigrated to Great Britain in 1933. After the Second World War, he reported on the Nuremberg Trials and was involved in establishing the Tagesspiegel and Die Welt. He became particularly known as a biographer of Thomas Mann and as the editor of Mann’s diaries.
