Peter Burschel (born 1963) is a historian. He studied history, politics and philosophy in Göttingen. From 2007 to 2011, he held a chair in early modern history at the University of Rostock, followed by a chair at Humboldt University of Berlin from 2011 to 2016. In 2016, he was appointed professor of cultural history of the Middle Ages and the early modern period at the University of Göttingen and entrusted with directing the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel. His research interests include historical anthropology, the history of cultural contact, and the writing of history.
