Percival Everett, born in 1956 in Fort Gordon, Georgia, is an American writer and academic. He taught English at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and has published numerous novels, short stories, and poetry collections. His notable works include Erasure, The Trees, and James. Erasure was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, while The Trees was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Everett received the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for James. His other honors include the PEN Center USA Award for Fiction, the Literature Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Windham Campbell Prize, and the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award.
