Patti Smith

Patti Smith (born in Chicago in 1946) is a musician, poet, performance artist, painter and photographer. With her band, she released the album »Horses« in 1975, a landmark in punk and rock history. In 1977, »Because the Night«, her commercially most successful single, was released; it was co-written with Bruce Springsteen. Smith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Her autobiographical book »Just Kids« appeared in 2010 and received the U.S. National Book Award. Her other books include »M Train«, »Devotion« and »The Year of the Monkey«. Before her musical career, she worked for a time as an assistant bookseller in New York.
