Orson Scott Card was born in 1951 in Richland, Washington. He studied English literature and initially worked as a playwright before turning to novel writing. His international breakthrough came with *Ender’s Game*, which won the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award. Its sequel, *Speaker for the Dead*, received both awards as well. Card returned several times to Ender’s world, including with *Ender’s Shadow*, whose story runs parallel to that of *Ender’s Game*. *Ender’s Game* was adapted into a film in 2013.
