Norbert Sachser

Norbert Sachser (born 1954) is a German zoologist and ethologist. He studied biology, chemistry and sociology, earned his doctorate in Bielefeld, and completed his habilitation at the Chair of Animal Physiology in Bayreuth. At the University of Münster, he headed the Institute of Behavioral Biology, also referred to as the Center for Behavioral Biology, for 25 years. Sachser served as president of the Ethological Society and was appointed an honorary member. His research focused on the development and evolution of social behavior in mammals, animal welfare, and the biology of individuality. His book “Der Mensch im Tier” became a bestseller and was translated into English, Russian, Chinese, and other languages.
