Nicolas Vanier was born in Senegal in 1962. He is known as both an adventurer and a writer. According to the source biography, he was the first person to cross an 8,600-kilometre route through Alaska and Canada using only a dog sled. He spent a year with his wife and daughter in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains, an experience he documented in the bestseller *The Snow Child* (*Das Schneekind*). Vanier also wrote *Mit meinen Hunden*.
