Nicolas Bouvier

Nicolas Bouvier (1929–1998) grew up in Geneva, where he studied the humanities and law. He made his first journeys to France and Italy at the age of 16. In 1953, he drove by car through Yugoslavia, Turkey and Iran to Afghanistan, continuing to Japan in 1955. During the 1960s, he undertook several extended journeys, including to Japan, China and Korea. Bouvier worked as a writer, photographer and journalist and published numerous books.
