Nemonte Nenquimo

Nemonte Nenquimo is an Indigenous Waorani leader from the Ecuadorian Amazon. She co-founded the Indigenous-led Ceibo Alliance and Amazon Frontlines. Under her leadership, the Waorani won a landmark legal victory against the oil industry, helping protect more than 200,000 hectares of rainforest from destruction. In 2020, Nenquimo received the Goldman Environmental Prize for Central and South America. She was also included in the BBC’s 100 Women list and TIME’s selection of the 100 most influential people.
