Natalia Ginzburg (1916–1991) was an Italian writer. Born in Palermo, she lived in exile during Fascism as a Jewish author. She published her first novel under the pseudonym Alessandra Tornimparte. Her second novel, published in 1947 as *È stato così* (*So ist es gewesen*), received the Tempo literary prize. In addition to her own writing, Ginzburg worked as a translator and translated, among others, Marcel Proust into Italian. She sympathized with the anti-Fascist resistance in Turin.
