Nancy Mitford was born in London in 1904 as the eldest of the later well-known Mitford sisters. She wrote novels about the lives of the English and French upper classes and was part of London’s bohemian circles. Mitford was a friend of the writer Evelyn Waugh, who encouraged her to write. She achieved her literary breakthrough in 1945 with the novel “Englische Liebschaften.” She died in Versailles in 1973.
