Monika Gruber was born near Erding, Germany, and grew up on her parents’ farm. She attended the Ruth von Zerboni acting school in Munich and became known as a cabaret performer, actress, and author. In 2004, she wrote her first solo cabaret programs in the character of “Kellnerin Monique” (“Waitress Monique”). Her breakthrough came with her second stage solo, “Hauptsach g’sund.” Her successful books include “Man muss das Kind im Dorf lassen,” which remained on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for more than 40 weeks, and “Und erlöse uns von den Blöden,” co-written with Andreas Hock, which reached number one upon publication.
