Michael Rinn is trained as an alpine mountaineering instructor with the German Alpine Club and worked as a climbing lecturer at Justus Liebig University Giessen. He was active in mountaineering for more than three decades. His expeditions took him to Canada, Patagonia, and Iceland; he also spent two years travelling through the United States and six months in Nepal. From 2005 onward, he led climbing groups that included people with and without disabilities.
