Michael Kirchschlager, born in 1966, was born in Staßfurt, Saxony-Anhalt. He studied history and German studies at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, specializing in literature and the history of the Middle Ages. From 1991 to 2009, with interruptions, he worked as a historian, managing director and association chairman at Runneburg Castle in Weißensee. In 1995, he founded Verlag Kirchschlager, a publishing house specializing in nonfiction on the history of crime and law as well as the cultural history of Thuringia. He also wrote historical novels, crime novels, and books for children and young adults. In 2012, he received the Förderpreis of the Stiftung Deutsche Schrift.
