Michael Connelly, born in Philadelphia in 1956, is an American crime novelist. While studying, he discovered the novels of Raymond Chandler and decided to become a writer. He initially worked as a journalist, specializing in crime reporting; in 1986, a report he co-authored about an airplane crash in Fort Lauderdale was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He subsequently worked as a crime reporter for the Los Angeles Times. His debut novel, The Black Echo, was published in 1992 and won the Edgar Award. His best-known characters include detective Harry Bosch, detective Renée Ballard, crime reporter Jack McEvoy, and lawyer Mickey Haller. Several of his novels have been adapted for film and television. In 2018, Connelly received the British Crime Writers’ Association’s Diamond Dagger.
