Matthias Ulrich

Matthias Ulrich was born in Braunschweig in 1950 to German-Austrian parents and grew up in Stuttgart. He studied German literature, art history and geography in Freiburg and Paris. His books include the story collections »Der Belgier« and »Neckarblue« and the novels »Die Verzögerung« and »Der Himmel über Chiloé«. In 1999 he received the Wiener Werkstattpreis. Ulrich edited N-O-X-I-A-N-A, a journal of literature and drawing, and wrote essays on authors including Hermann Lenz, Oskar Loerke, Peter Handke and Roberto Juarroz. Alongside his literary work, he produced an extensive body of drawings and paintings from 1971 onward, exhibited in Germany and abroad.
